A Webbased Glaucoma Diagnosis Support System

1. Purpose of the Webbased Application

The web-based system provides modern algorithmic support for medical experts in the field of glaucoma diagnosis. It includes novel methods and algorithms designed and implemented in a common research project of the universities in Erlangen (D) and Brno (CZ).

The aim of the project was primarily to enable correct and more exact delineation of the optical disc boarder, based on fused fundus photographic data and three-dimensional image data from the confocal laser ophthalmoscope. Also 3D visualisation of the optical disc is available.

The concept of the web application will enable the user to export the results of his/her analysis including the fused image data in standard formats, to save them and utilise in their own work, diagnostics and statistics, possibly also out of the frame of this system.

It is expected that, during the public use of this web application, a large database of commented ophthalmologic image and other data will be gradually produced, which may find its utilisation in statistically oriented ophthalmologic research.
